01 DAY - Negombo

Morning:

  •  Arrive in Katunayake (Bandaranaike International Airport).
  •  Travel to Negombo (about a 1-hour drive). This coastal city offers a more relaxed start to your trip.

Afternoon:

  • Head to the Dutch Fort and St. Mary’s Church to explore some colonial architecture.
  • Take a boat tour in Muthurajawela Wetlands to observe the mangroves and birdlife ( optional – depending on the time arriving)
  • Explore the Negombo Fish Market and see the local fishing community in action.

Evening:

  • Check in to the hotel and spend relaxing evening by the beach.
  • Enjoy a laid-back dinner along the beach or in a local seafood restaurant.

Overnight: Stay in Negombo.

Morning:

  • Depart early from Negombo to Wilpattu National Park (approx. 3.5-4 hours by car).
    • On arrival, check-in to your hotel near Wilpattu.

Afternoon:

  • Go on an exciting jeep safari in Wilpattu National Park. The park is known for its leopards, elephants, and various bird species. It’s one of the oldest and largest national parks in Sri Lanka.

Evening

  • Relax at your hotel and enjoy a peaceful evening.

Overnight :

  • Stay near Wilpattu or in Anuradhapura (approx. 1 hour from Wilpattu).

Morning:

  • Depart for Anuradhapura (approx. 1-1.5 hours from Wilpattu).
    • Explore the Ancient City of Anuradhapura, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
    • Visit the Sri Maha Bodhi, the sacred fig tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment.
    • Visit the Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, Isurumuniya Temple, and Jetavanaramaya.

  • Continue exploring Anuradhapura’s archaeological sites such as Abhayagiri Dagaba and Lankaramaya Vihara.
  • Optionally visit Tissa Wewa reservoir or explore the area further.

  • Stay in Anuradhapura.

Morning:

  • Depart early for Polonnaruwa (approx. 1.5-2 hours by car).
    • Explore the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
    • Visit Gal Vihara (rock-carved Buddha statues), Royal Palace, and Parakrama Samudra (a massive reservoir).

Afternoon:

  • Continue visiting Polonnaruwa’s ruins, such as the Rankoth Vehera, Thuparama, and the Lotus Pond.
    • Consider renting a bicycle or joining a guided tour to explore the ruins.

Evening :

  • Return to your hotel and relax after a day of exploration.

Morning:

  • After breakfast Depart to Sigiriya.
  • Explore the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Climb to the top for panoramic views and explore ancient frescoes, the Lion’s Gate, and the royal gardens.

Afternoon:

  • Relax and enjoy a leisurely lunch in Sigiriya.
    • Optionally visit the nearby Pidurangala Rock for a less crowded, but equally spectacular, view of Sigiriya.

Evening

  • Explore the Sigiriya village or enjoy a spa treatment at your hotel to unwind.

  • Stay in Sigiriya.

Morning:

  • After breakfast, depart to Kandy.
  • On the way, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO site with impressive cave temples featuring Buddhist murals and statues.

Afternoon:

  • Upon arrival to Kandy, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of Sri Lanka’s most significant Buddhist sites.

Evening

  • Enjoy a traditional Kandyan dance performance showcasing Sri Lankan culture.
  • Take a leisurely walk around Kandy Lake.

Morning:

  • After breakfast, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic to see Sri Lanka’s most revered Buddhist artifact.
  • Depart for Nuwara Eliya, also known as “Little England” for its colonial charm and cool climate (approx. 2.5 hours).
  • On the way, stop at a tea plantation to see how Sri Lanka’s famous tea is grown and processed. Take a tour of the factory and taste some fresh Ceylon tea.
  • Stop by to see beautiful Ramboda water fall during the scenic drive through the hill country.

Evening :

  • Visit Famous post office, Victoria Park and Gregory Lake for a leisurely walk or boat ride.
  • Explore the Nuwara Eliya Market for fresh produce and local goods.
    • Single tree hills – to experience a walk around a tea plantation with a great panoramic view of the city.

Morning:

  • After breakfast, take the tea train from Nanuoya to Ella -known as one of the most scenic routes in the world – passing through lush tea plantations, waterfalls, and misty mountains. Don’t forget your camera!

Afternoon:

  • Upon arrival in Ella, take a short hike to Ella Rock
  • Visit the Nine Arches Bridge, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks.

Evening

  • Relax and enjoy a peaceful evening in Ella. You can have dinner in one of the cozy cafés with scenic views.

Overnight

  • Stay in Ella.

Morning:

  • Take an early morning safari in Yala National Park – to see diverse wildlife, especially leopards, bears and elephants.

Afternoon:

  • Continue your safari or relax at your hotel.
  • Optionally visit the Yala Lagoon area for birdwatching

Evening:

  • Enjoy an evening of relaxation after the safari.

Overnight:

  • Stay near Yala.

Morning:

  • After breakfast, depart for Galle (approximately 3 hours drive).
    • Visit the Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with well-preserved Dutch colonial architecture.
    • Walk along the ramparts of the fort for amazing views of the Indian Ocean.

Afternoon:

  • Visit the Galle National Museum and the Clock Tower for a deeper look into the town’s history.
  • Optionally, relax at Unawatuna Beach, located nearby, for some beach time.

  • Depart for Bentota (approx. 1.5 hours by car), a beautiful beach town on the southwest coast.
    • Visit Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery on the way, where you can learn about turtle conservation.

  • Spend the day relaxing at Bentota Beach or indulge in water sports like jet skiing, snorkeling, or a boat ride on the Bentota River.

Evening

  • Enjoy a sunset cocktail or dinner by the beach.

Morning:

  • Depart for Colombo (approx. 1.5-2 hours by car).
    • Explore Pettah Market for last-minute shopping or visit Independence Square.

Afternoon:

  • If time permits, visit Viharamahadevi Park or the Colombo National Museum. airport.

Evening

  • Enjoy your final meal in Colombo before transferring to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure.
